PN Ratings Explained: PN10, PN16, PN20

The PN number printed on a PPRC pipe is its nominal pressure class. It tells you how much pressure the pipe is designed to hold, measured in bar, at normal room temperature. A higher PN means a thicker pipe wall.

• PN10 – thinner wall, suitable for cold water lines with normal pressure, such as gravity lines from an overhead tank.
• PN16 – a middle class used for cold water at higher pressure or for mild warm water.
• PN20 – thicker wall, the usual choice for hot water lines from a geyser or solar heater, and for lines connected to a pressure pump.
